Professor, James Wines conducts a drawing workshop with Pantheon Institute students.  After a chilly visit to Sant’Ivo alla Sapienza where students worked on drawing exercises with Professors Jamie Cooper and Romolo Martemucci, they headed back to Via della Gatta studios for a lecture and drawing demonstration by legendary architect, James Wines.

EISENMANPeter Eisenman to receive the 2014 Prix de Rome for career achievement 

The Prix de Rome award is presented by Accademia Adrianea di Architettura e Archeologia and is presented to distinguished professionals in the field of architecture in recognition of their contributions in the area of designing within the context of archaeology. The award ceremony will be held 10 March 2014 at Casa dell’ Architettura, Rome.  Ceremony and events begin at 16:3o hrs and will feature Mr. Eisenman’s Lectio Magistralis.  The lecture will focus on Mr. Eisenman’s theoretical work – with particular reference to the concept of archaeology and its understanding as a design technique based on stratigraphic layering.

James Wines – Green Light

In a packed venue at Casa dell’ Architettura, James Wines presented “Green Ligtht – Re-thinking Public Space in the 21st Century”.   Mr. Wines, recipient of the prestigious Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt National Design Award for Career Achievement, presented his lecture before an audience of international design professionals and Pantheon Institute students.  The presentation focused on the significance of designing effective and meaningful public space.

Beginning 20 January,  James Wines and Jamie Cooper are conducting an intensive architectural drawing workshop with Pantheon Institute students.  “Getting It” is the title of the week-long workshop developed in conjunction with the Spring 2014 Urban Design Studio.  The studio project “Eventarium”  – involves a complex urban design project for Villa Borghese.   wines_drawing_on_rome

The New Year brings dynamic new course offerings and special events to Pantheon Institute’s strong lineup of academic programs for Spring 2014.

Here is a preview:

  • We are so proud to announce the very special drawing workshop with legendary architect and Penn State Professor of Architecture, James Wines.  James is conducting a week-long intensive drawing workshop with our students in conjunction with the Architecture Design Studio.   James is also presenting a program at Casa dell’ Architettura entitled “GREEN LIGHT – Re-thinking Public Space” on 28 January.  Don’t miss it!
  • Back by popular demand, Professor Allan Ceen has re-introduced ARCH 496 Architectural Geometry.  This partial-semester course concentrates on descriptive geometry and analysis of formal elements of Roman architecture including Renaissance and Baroque periods.
  • New to Pantheon Institute is “L I N K S”Architecture and the Arts in Contemporary Italy.  This is an innovative new theoretical analysis course developed by Professor David Sabatello for Pantheon Institute students that focuses on the unique relationship of art and architecture.  This exciting new course investigates contemporary Italian artistic production and expression.
